A neighborhood squirrel began visiting our house, and we began feeding him scraps, stale crackers, you know. I felt pretty good that we weren't "wasting" food -- it was being used as survival food for a hungry squirrel. And our cupboards were staying cleaned out, which was a bonus! Then Natalie had to do a project in 6th grade, something about feeding an animal, recording the time of day, what the animal chose between 2 foods -- so she chose, yes, "the" squirrel. Now she's going into 7th grade, and our 2-year old asks where "Hammy" is all the time -- named from the movie Over the Hedge :) Nathan even impersonates Hammy! And Hammy has become way too bold, way too brave and much too daring! We can't leave our doors open. Sheldon found him near our bedroom the other day and Annaliese spotted him in our dining room just before this picture! He's not even scared of us! He must not think he's getting enough to eat because instead of staying on the back porch, he has even come around to the front porch and we could hardly keep him from coming into our living room while trying to get out our front door! I am not an animal lover -- just ask my family! But somehow, maybe because we don't "have to" feed him or really ever remember to take care of him, he has crept into our lives and house (literally). It looks like we have a real "stray" squirrel problem and possibly a "wild" pet on our hands =)!
