Broken Arm

Last Thursday we picked up some chicken for a picnic dinner

and then met Sheldon after work at Lake Goodwin park. 

The girls had been there two evenings before for YW.

Aaron was the only brave one to go in the water at the lake!

(it wasn't very warm =(

However, we weren't even there an hour

when Annaliese carried Nathan over to us.

He had fallen off one of the play toys and landed on his right arm =(

His arm was so obviously broken

that we quickly gathered everything and everyone,

and rushed to the Urgent Care Clinic!

Luckily it was only 15 minutes away.

Sheldon was able to give Nathan a blessing and then 

they were able to get him right in.

When the x-rays showed that both bones in his arm

were severely broken,

the doctor put it in a splint and sling,

and called the ER at the hospital.

It was no longer the "worst day" when he got
a ride in a wheelchair down the hall at the clinic!

Sheldon took the other kids home at this point,

and I took him in.

Nathan really wanted his 'whole' family to come with him to the hospital too

"because that would make [him] more comfortable,

and they would wish [him] good luck." =)

The ER also saw him right away,

and everyone was so wonderful!

After more x-rays and then anesthesia

(the nurse at the clinic and one of the x ray techs at the hospital

said Nathan was the best patient of the day!),

the orthopedic surgeon

set his arm and then put it in a cast.

The x ray tech let him choose a stuffed animal;

he chose the ty beanie baby pictured named Puffer 

This was our first child to break a limb,

so I hadn't seen an arm set before!

That was hard to watch =( 

He'll be in the cast for about 6 weeks.

Nathan was full of questions for the nurse and doctors

(the surgeon said that he may be a doctor someday =)

and he is so strong and brave!

He only cried a little at the park,

and then only when the nurse needed to put his IV in

(something about that needle).

We were at the clinic by about 7:00 pm.

and home from the hospital by about 11:30 pm! Not bad!

Nathan's prayer that night included

"I hope that no one else in our family breaks any part of their body."

We are amazed at how well Nathan is getting along!

And he didn't even need any pain medication after leaving the hospital!
